VIP Lounge

LAX - Los Angeles International Airport

At the time of this project, British Airways required a red grid ceiling at the reception area in each VIP lounge.  (At Heathrow, for example, red 2 x 4 foot grid panels were inserted in a typical modular suspended ceiling.)  Here, we took the requirement as inspiration for a design composed of articulated panels in many colors and materials—lacquered metal, stained wood, fabric, plastic laminate, and even white marble—all put together with a De Stijl-derived vocabulary of hovering, overlapped planes.
