Cliff-top cottage

Chesapeake Bay MD

Exterior view of chimney and new window

Details aim to balance desire for comfortable, traditional feeling with recognition of the unavoidable reality that we are building today.  Existing rock chimney (left photo), rather than being extended upward to new roof height, is capped with a high window and a fireplace flue wrapped with lead-coated copper.  New bay window (right photo), along with every new corner condition in the building, uses mitred glass for frameless corner, hinting to a careful observer what is new and what is old.
